General Description

  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and school personnel to improve classroom management strategies or parenting skills; address mental health issues; assess, identify, and work with students with disabilities or gifted and talented students; and improve teaching and learning strategies for all students. Coordinate and facilitate the needs of students and the school district including evaluation, counseling, consultation, crisis intervention, threat and risk assessment, staff develop

Qualifications

  • Eligibility for a Pupil Personnel Services or Postgraduate Professional license with an endorsement in School Psychology. 
  • Completion of an approved program in school psychology to include at least 60 graduate hours that culminate in at least a master’s degree or hold a certificate issued by the National school Psychology Certification Board. 

Essential Job Functions

  • Serves on various school-based student assistance committees
  • Provides school faculty training on positive behavior supports; warning signs for students at-risk for serious emotional behavior
  • Conducts functional behavior assessments
  • Provides group counseling targeting behavioral intervention strategies
  • Serves on school safety and crisis team
  • Conducts assessments of students experiencing academic and social adjustment problems in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations for exceptional education services.
  • Complete psycho-educational evaluations and other assessments in compliance with mandated timelines.
  • Collaborates with teachers, school social worker, administrators, and other school personnel to provide research-based strategies, intervention and progress monitoring to address academic and behavioral needs of students.
  • Performs structured observations of students in the school setting to resolve problems with learning and/or behavior.
  • Consults with teachers, administrators and other school personnel to help them better understand and work with individual behavior.
  • Develops and implements targeted behavior strategies/interventions to support student emotional needs and improve behavior and academic achievement.
  • Completes student risk assessments.
  • Serves as member or school-based student assistance teams; special education eligibility committees and on school safety and crisis intervention teams. 
  • Provides individual and/or group counseling for students including anger management and crisis intervention services that include grief counseling and debriefing for students and school staff.
  • Creates individual treatment plans.
  • Provides case management services to implement a comprehensive student service plan at school, home, and in the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of psychological theory and practice including assessment and test theory, diagnostic categories, personality assessment, learning disabilities, statistics, and counseling theories; knowledge of and adherence to legal procedures as contained in local, state, and federal policies governing special education, including IDEA laws and guidelines; knowledge of and adherence to professional and ethical standards of the American Psychological Association and the National Association of School Psychologists; knowledge of counseling techniques, behavioral management techniques, classroom instructional interventions, and parent training strategies.

Physical agility to drive, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk, and reach overhead.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • References

  • Successful outcomes of the following background investigations/tests are required before any offer of employment can be finalized:
    • Tuberculosis Screening/Test
    • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal History Investigation
    • State Police Criminal History Investigation
    • Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigation

Special  Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
