GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Perform work troubleshooting and assessing the need for maintenance, repair, modification, replacement, and installation of HVAC and electrical systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Respond to the maintenance requirements through work orders, preventative maintenance requirements, emergency calls, etc. 
  • Respond to after-hours calls for troubleshooting. 
  • Operate a work truck.
  • Communicates with other craftsmen, supervisor, and administrative staff.
  • Collaborate with school personnel regarding job requests and outcomes.
  • Operate tools and equipment associated with the trade.
  • Maintain accurate work order records and parts inventory.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
  • Perform related work as required.

DUTIES ASSIGNED TO SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS

  • HVAC
    • Installation of new or repair of related trade equipment.
    • Troubleshoot, repair, install and maintain refrigeration and air handling equipment; maintain records and files; prepare reports.
    • Perform preventive maintenance as required or as requested by manufactures recommendations
    • Monitor and control HVAC, Energy Management and Control System (EMCS) and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) systems at applicable facilities. .
    • Verify equipment operations and make necessary repairs according to manufacturer's recommendations.
    • Troubleshoot comfort concerns and make necessary corrections.
    • Support with troubleshooting HVAC, EMCS, IAQ, and electrical systems. 
    • Maintain and repair chilled/hot water circulation components.
    • Coordinate building system schedules and operation with annual district needs such as: individual HVAC Overrides, summer operation, special programs, weekend events, school rental requirements, etc.
    • Maintain, repair and rebuild various components encompassing the HVAC atmosphere.
  • Electrician
    • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems. 
    • Inspect, troubleshoot, assemble, install, connect, repair, adjust and test a variety of electrical systems. 
    • Repair electrical services and switch panels. 
    • Install and maintain lighting systems and fluorescent and general light fixtures. 
    • Install and wire control devices on heating systems, boilers, fan coil units, and baseboard electric heat.  
    • Replace and maintain electric motors.
    • Install conduit, wiring, switches, and receptacles.
    • Replace and repair switches and receptacles. 
    • Respond to emergency calls associated with related equipment. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of a trade; knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials; ability to use and operate tools and machinery associate with trade; thorough knowledge of hazards and safe precautions associated with the trade; ability to plan, organize and successfully complete multiple, unrelated simultaneous projects; ability to provide and follow oral and written instructions; demonstrate leadership and organizational skills; ability to estimate material and time required for various jobs; ability to interpret technical documents, drawings, blueprints, etc.; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Proficient in the use of computers and job-related software.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required:
      • High School Diploma, GED, or completion of a vocational program.
      • CFC Certification.
  • Preferred:
      • Master or Journeyman license. 
  • *A comparable amount of training and experience maybe substituted for the minimum qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, reaching, and driving. Occasional sitting, balancing, kneeling, and crawling, Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, fumes, gases, unpleasant odors, hazards such as moving vehicles, electric current, moving mechanical parts, etc. and/or loud noises. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and over 50 pounds occasionally. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license. 
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. 
  • References - Applicants must submit two (2) written references; references should be from a current or previous supervisor. References from a supervising teacher or professor are acceptable when there is no relevant prior work history.
